Last week I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes after failing 2 out of 4 blood tests during my 3 hour glucose screening. Dr. Neyman, my OB/GYN, referred me to a specialist to co-manage my care and baby's care through the next 10 weeks. Today I had an appt with the new group and they taught me how to prick my finger and test my glucose levels (4 times a day). It seems pretty easy but it will definitely be an inconvenience. They also reviewed a sample diet I should follow and said while they aren't too strict, I will soon see trends of what makes my levels spike so I can avoid or limits certain foods. I'm sure David will help me stay on track too. The most exciting part of the visit was another ultrasound. I think this office has much better equipment b/c people that go there are generally considered high risk. We got to see 4D shots of baby girl Perque! It really was amazing (see below). She has quite a face now. Look at that nose! I thought the shadow on her head was hair but the US tech said she is still bald. She is about 3 lbs, 4 oz - right as she should be. One of the risk factors of GD is a large baby. Right now she is looking pretty average size. Whew!
Only 10 weeks to go! :-)
